Standing Firm
Acts Chapter Seventeen tells us that the Apostle Paul planted a Christian church in Thessalonica around 50 A.D. while on his second missionary journey. Paul wanted a Christian church in Thessalonica because it had the chief seaport on the Aegean Sea and was a principal stop on the main road from Rome to the east (Via Egnatian). But shortly after launching the church, Paul was run out of Thessalonica by a group of angry Jews. These angry Jews also forced Paul to leave Berea a few days later. This prompted Paul to go to Athens and then Corinth. While ministering in Corinth, Paul wrote two short letters to the new Christians in Thessalonica to encourage them to continue to witness, work, and wait for the Lord Jesus Christ.
This fall, we’re going to study Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians to learn how to stand firm in the Lord by focusing on the return of Christ. I guarantee this two-month message series will give you the strength you need for today and the hope you need for tomorrow!
“For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out His anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when He returns, we can live with Him forever.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9–10, NLT
