About

Our Story

Bay Farm Church is an independent, multi-ethnic, multi-generational church on the Bay Farm side of Alameda Island.  BFC is affiliated with Converge (formerly the Baptist General Conference).  Converge is a movement of churches working together to strengthen and start more churches (convergeworldwide.org).

Bay Farm Church has shared the Good News of Jesus Christ in Alameda for over thirty-five years. BFC began in 1988 when Pastor Andrew Acquistapace and approximately 50 people moved their membership from Lakeside Baptist Church in Oakland to plant a new church in Alameda. Funds to build a new church facility in Harbour Bay Landing were provided through the sale of rental properties in downtown Oakland and surplus cash reserves at Lakeside. The church grew, and Pastor Jim Meyer was hired as an Assistant Pastor in 1999 and was subsequently called to the senior pastor position in 2000. In 2011, BFC called Pastor John Willoughby to guide the church in reaching its full ministry potential.

  • BFC’s worship service is on Sundays from 10 AM to 11:15 AM. (Coffee and donuts are served before the service).

  • BFC’s worship service is intentionally casual, friendly, fun, and focused on moving people closer to God. Each week, we sing praises to God, celebrating who He is and what He has done for us. We watch inspiring videos that encourage and empower us. We study the Bible – God’s Written Word, to learn the truth and how to live properly. We also pray, observe communion, baptize new believers, and connect with others on their spiritual journey.

At Bay Farm Church, we value…

Biblical Living – We are committed to using God’s written Word to show people what is true and how to do what is right.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16–17 NLT

Intentional Fellowship – We are committed to meeting together to motivate, encourage, and share each other’s burdens.

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24–25 NLT

Gifted Ministry - We are committed to using our God-given gifts, talents, and resources to serve others for the glory of God.

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 4:10–11 NLT

Gospel Sharing – We are committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with everyone because it brings salvation to everyone who believes.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” Romans 10:13–14, NLT
