Simon Says More
In his first letter, Peter deals with problems from outside the church. Simon calls Christians to courageously endure suffering and persecution by standing firm in the grace of God. In his second letter, Peter deals with problems from inside the church. Simon calls Christians to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so they are not carried away by the lies of wicked people. Knowledge is the key word in Peter’s second epistle; he uses some form of the word over ten times. In three chapters, Simon tells us we must know Jesus and fully understand what He has done for us to defeat Satan, denounce deceivers, and debunk their false doctrines.
