Books About Sex
The topic of sex is contentious in today's society, but it doesn't need to be. Find out the proper role of sex by reading any of these books.
While we don't endorse every single thing said in these books, these volumes are well worth obtaining and devouring. However, some of them are out-of-print but may be purchased at Amazon.com for under $1.00!
- Money, Sex & Power
- by Richard Foster
- The famous author of Celebration of Discipline tackles the three biggest problems in the lives of most people, including Christians. What makes Foster appealing is his simple yet profound writing and his non-condemning tone. He is a very gracious writer, making God's way look appealing and the ways of the world undesirable.
- The Sexual Man
- by Archibald Hart
- Dr. Hart reveals his research on male sexuality as it applies to "mainstream, middle-of-the-road, normal, heterosexual men." Chapter titles include, "Am I Normal?", "How Men Think About Sex," "Why Men Love/Hate Pornography," and "Sex and the Married Man." There is information in Hart's book that men won't find anywhere else.
- Secrets of Eve
- by Archibald Hart, Catherine Hart Weber, and Debra Taylor
- The counterpart to The Sexual Man, the authors base their book on research conducted with over 2,000 Christian women. The book may be profitably read by both men and women and includes material on all aspects of female sexuality from a deeply Christian perspective.
- The Marketing of Evil
- by David Kupelian
- Kupelian documents how the exploding of sexual boundaries in our culture is the product of deliberate attempts to "sell sex" to western culture. This book includes eye-opening chapters on homosexuality, selling sex to kids, destroying marriage, and deviant sexual practices (including some disturbing research on the godfather of American sexuality, Alfred Kinsey).
- The Myth of the Greener Grass
- by J. Allan Petersen
- An appealing writer, Petersen writes about the anatomy and consequences of adultery. He makes a convincing case for confining sexual expression to a marriage relationship in a memorable way.
- False Intimacy
- by Harry Schaumburg
- Having treated the problems surrounding sexual misconduct for more than 25 years, Schaumburg gives hope to the individual and family struggling with a family member's sexual addiction. The tone of this book is non-condemning and points toward a better future for those caught in "false intimacy."
- The Sexual Christian
- by Tim Stafford
- Like his friend Philip Yancey, Stafford looks at sexuality from a different vantage point than many Christian books. A former writer for Campus Life magazine, Stafford answered the questions of teenagers about sex for years and had to come up with fresh ways of addressing the same issues.
- Decisive Issues Facing Christians Today
- by John Stott
- A careful theologian and biblical scholar, Stott covers a wide variety of relevant topics, including feminism, marriage and divorce, abortion, and homosexual partnerships. While viewing life from a British perspective, Stott is considered by many to be the closest thing evangelical Christians have to a worldwide teacher. The book also covers issues like nuclear war, race, and poverty from a thoroughly Christian viewpoint.
- Eros Defiled and Eros Redeemed
- by John White
- In the first book, the famous Christian psychiatrist from Canada discusses issues like homosexuality, adultery, and "deeds done in the dark" from a candid yet compassionate viewpoint. White writes about some of his own sexual experiences and the impact they've had on him. In the second book, White offers hope for "breaking the stranglehold of sexual sin." The book's three parts discuss the spiritual roots of sexual sin, issues of gender and sex, and how God can rescue us from our own sexual difficulties.
- Real Sex: The Naked Truth About Chastity
- by Lauren Winner
- A convert to Christ from a Jewish community, this "fellow pilgrim" (who briefly discusses her own sexual experiences) writes honestly with the way our culture and churches deal with sexuality. Making the case for chastity, she writes authentically without getting preachy. This book is so well-done that First Resort has been giving copies away and asked Winner to speak at their annual banquet. (She accepted.)
